Laser Eye Protection Sizing Guide
This eye protection sizing guide will assist you in the selection of proper laser protection frames for your application. We offer laser eye protection for medical, military, aerospace, scientific and industrial applications.
The polycarbonate filters are hard coated and unbreakable with laser protection and absorptive dyes molded into the plastic. Surface scratches have no affect on laser protection and the absorptive dyes will not bleach over time affording outstanding protection with comfort and style.
Nomenclature
The components that make up a particular frame, regardless of the style, are similar in nature. The measurements of our frames are taken from the various components listed in the image. The overall measurement is taken from the outside of the end-piece at each end and from the top and bottom of the widest part of the rim. The temple measurement is taken from the inside of the respective end-pieces right at the hinge point. The lens size is taken at the widest points of the lenses in the horizontal and the vertical. The temple arm length measurement is taken from the hinge on the end-piece to the tip of the earpiece.
Sizing Recommendations
The most important sizing consideration is the temple measurement. The measurement from the users left to right temple must be equal to or less than the temple measurement of the frames for the frames to fit comfortably. The temple arms are somewhat flexible and will generally fit heads of differing shapes. The only exceptions to the temple arm flexibility are frames 700 and 900 as the temple arm material is molded from hard coated polycarbonate. If the eye wear is to be made available for use by multiple people a fit over frame model is the logical choice and will meet the needs of most individuals. We do recommend the eye wear be purchased for each individual so they use the style that suits their own needs.
High power and energy laser systems certainly require each individual to use a frame that best fits their particular sizing needs. The recommendation in a high power or high pulse energy environment is the Softie Goggle as this provides the best overall protection. There are no gaps where light may leak in from the sides.
One consideration often overlooked is the style of the frame. Users are more likely to wear the eye protection if it not only protects but also looks good. The idea may seem trivial when considering the scale of the research or the operational conditions in a lab or facility but when safety is involved even the most subtle psychological effects should be considered.
